Fearne Cotton, Tess Daly and Rochelle Humes lead stars in dressing up as their childhood heroes for Children in Need

September 10, 2015

Wonder Woman, Mary Poppins and Sandy from Grease. These were just some of the popular characters that the stars chose to channel, to celebrate the launch of this year's Children in Need campaign.

Each celebrity was asked to dress up as their own childhood hero and encourage members of the public to follow suit to help raise money for Children in Need, whose BBC One appeal show will air on Friday 13 November.

Hopelessly devoted to the cause, Tess Daly pulled on her leather trousers and red stilettos to emulate Olivia Newton John, also known as Sandy from Grease. The Strictly Come Dancing presenter played the part to perfection, wearing a slinky off-the-shoulder top and carrying a matching leather jacket slung over her shoulder.

Rochelle Humes chose a true superhero – Wonder Woman – and donned a Stars and Stripes dress complete with a cape. Her unique accessory, however, was the Pudsey bear toy clipped onto her belt.

"Wonder Woman is the epitome of a strong female role model," said Rochelle, 26. " I had such fun finally getting the chance to dress up as her, and I hope everyone across the UK enjoys dressing up as their childhood hero for BBC Children in Need this year. It really will go on to make a difference."

Fearne Cotton, who has just given birth to her second baby, nailed her look as Debbie Harry from Blondie – someone she called a "musical icon who has remained relevant and at the top of her game to this day."

With her hair tucked under her hat and wearing a bright red scarf, Sophie Ellis-Bextor looked the spitting image of Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins.

"I loved Dame Julie Andrews when I was little," said the Murder on the Dancefloor singer. "Everything about her films is just so enchanting, and they were a big part of my childhood. It's been such fun dressing up; hopefully we've inspired others to get involved and help raise money for a really worthwhile cause."
