The singer welcomed Sasha, her second son, in Barcelona on 29 January

"More than 100 million children are out of school and 159 million boys and girls under five are physical and cognitively stunted due to a lack of care and proper nutrition," she said. "Every year that passes without us making significant investments in early childhood and initiatives that address these issues millions of kids will be born into the same cycle of poverty and lack of opportunity. "Shakira has also established a foundation, Barefoot, which has built dozens of schools in poverty-stricken areas of her home country, Colombia, and increased access to education. And she's about to release an app, Grow, which offers articles of parenting, ideas for play and advice on raising children.

"I'm always online looking for advice and learning about being a mother," she told Yahoo when asked what had inspired her to make the app. "I know there are other mums who are also looking for tips and suggestions. That's the idea behind it. Mums can use the app to find ideas and support, and teachers can also use it to guide and plan their curriculum to help kids learn. "Then asked what kind of a mother she thought she was, she replied: "I'm sometimes a tiger mum, sometimes a worried mum. And sometimes I'm a guilty mum."
