It has also emerged that the couple had a pre-nuptial agreement, meaning that proceedings should be fairly straightforward. Kaley, 29, is one of TV's highest paid actreses with an estimated fortune of $45 million.

Meanwhile, 28-year-old Ryan is a professional tennis player whose net worth is thought to be $2 million. Unfortunately, he has struggled with injury in the past few months and this has led to the strains on the home front, a source told People.

"Kaley and Ryan seem to have totally different personalities," the source said. "Kaley is extremely focused and high-energy. She seems to always be working. On her time off, she also keeps very busy. "But "over the summer, Ryan spent a lot of time at home. He has been struggling with injuries and barely practiced tennis. He has acted very down".

However as recently as two weeks ago the Hollywood star was posting pictures of them at home looking happy with their dogs. She also liked to show off a tattoo of their wedding date in Roman numerals down her back, while her estranged husband has her name written on his arm.

The break up comes after only 21 months of marriage. A statement from their representative said: "Kaley Cuoco and Ryan Sweeting have mutually decided to end their marriage. They ask for privacy at this time. No further statement will be issued regarding this matter."

In April the couple were plagued with rumours of a split but the actress defended their union on Instagram writing: “I have never been more proud of anyone on this planet – this guy is fighting back from a whirlwind of injuries and not to mention constant ‘conversation’ regarding our marriage and basically any daily decision we decide to make.”

"I’m so proud of his passion and his inner strength to fight back, but most of all I am proud to be his wife – so all of you who take it upon yourselves to trash our marriage, daily workings of our relationship and everything in between, go ahead and keep doing it, cause it only makes us stronger."
