Cathriona White's family have released an emotional statement following her death on Monday. The Irish make-up artist, whose relationship with actor Jim Carrey ended last week, was described as a "shining light" by her devastated family.

"The family of Cathriona White sincerely regret the untimely passing of their beloved daughter and sister," the statement released to the Irish Independent said. "Cathriona was a shining light in our lives who was deeply loved by her entire family.

"We will miss her terribly and at this difficult time we ask to be left in private to mourn our loss. There will be no further statements on behalf of the family."

Cathriona was discovered by two friends at her Los Angeles home on Monday after a reported drugs overdose. TMZ reports that the make-up artist had left a suicide note addressed to the Hollywood actor.

The 30-year-old, who celebrated her birthday earlier this month, had written a worrying message on Twitter three days before her death.

"Signing off Twitter, I hope I have been a light to my nearest and dearest. Love to yo all," she posted.

A "shocked and saddened" Jim released a statement after news of Cathriona's death was revealed on Tuesday, saying he was "deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona".

"She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled," he said. "My heart goes out to her friends and family and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit by a lightning bolt."

The Truman Show actor is not the only high profile person to speak out about Cathriona's loss; Robin Williams' daughter Zelda also tweeted to say she was "heartbroken" about the news.

"Heartbroken to continue to watch sweet, kind souls be consumed by darkness," she tweeted. "May it never hurt less, so we never grow numb to the loss."
