President Obama gives powerful address following Oregon shooting - as celebrities react

October 2, 2015

President Barack Obama had called for tighter gun laws after nine people were left dead and seven others were injured in a college shooting in Oregon on Thursday morning. Just a few hours after the tragedy, the visibly frustrated president gave an impassioned press conference saying that his inability to reform gun legislation has been the biggest frustration of his two terms in office.

Mr Obama has repeatedly attempted to tackle America's gun violence, but has consistently been blocked by Congress. "Somehow this has become routine," he said of the shooting. "The reporting is routine, my response here at this podium ends up being routine, the conversation in the aftermath of it… We've become numb to this.
