Simon Cowell could not take his eyes off girlfriend Lauren Silverman at a charity ball on Saturday night. The couple looked smitten as they stepped out at The Shooting Star Chase Ball held at London's Dorchester Hotel.

Lauren, 38, dressed to impress in a plunging red floor-length Donna Karan gown and wore her hair in a loose up-do, while Simon wore a classic black suit and showed off the facial hair he has sported since their summer holiday.

Simon Cowell and Lauren Silverman made a loved-up red carpet appearance

The X Factor head judge placed a protective arm around his girlfriend as they entered the event, which was also attended by Joan Collins and her husband Percy Gibson.

The loved-up display came as it was revealed that now Simon is happily settled with Lauren, his attention has turned to playing matchmaker for X Factor hosts Olly Murs and Caroline Flack. Troublemaker singer Olly is recently single after ending his three-year relationship with Francesca Thomas, so according to Xtra Factor host Melvin Odoom, Simon thinks he should start dating Caroline.

"Simon wants Olly and Caroline to get together," Melvin told The Sun on Sunday. "He's always trying to make them admit they fancy each other and make things awkward for them. They have this incredible chemistry. There's not a presenting duo around that has that kind of bond."

Simon is reportedly trying to set up Olly Murs and Caroline Flack

He continued: "They know what the other is thinking and they are always laughing and joking on set – but there is that kind of will-they, won't-they tension which they've always acknowledged and played with. I think they've got a nickname that they've had since their Xtra Factor days – Carolly or something… Brangelina style!"

However he may have to wait for his dreams to be fulfilled as Olly is reportedly feeling "numb" following the sudden break-up. "The split has just happened and it is very raw for Olly, he still feels numb," a source told The Sun. "He always worried that his relationship would struggle because he'd always put his career first. Now, with X Factor and his singing on the go, that's exactly what has happened."
