Tom Hanks has gone to great lengths to return a student's ID card after finding it in the park. The Forrest Gump star took to social media in a bid to track down the Fordham University student on Tuesday.
Sharing a picture of the pass on Twitter, Tom wrote: "Lauren! I found your Student ID in the park. If you still need it my office will get it to you. Hanx."
The tweet was shared over 7,000 times by fans in a bid to track down the young woman, with many fans commenting on how "awesome" the Hollywood actor was for his good deed.
Tom may well have been inspired by his own experience earlier this year when a fan returned the actor's credit card after discovering it on the street in New York. "A guy named Tony found my credit card on the street in NYC and returned it!" he tweeted in March. "Tony! You make this city even greater! Thanx. HANX."
Tom has had a tough time of it lately in his private life - the actor has supported his wife Rita Wilson through her battle with breast cancer and is guiding his son Chet through his addiction issues. The 25-year-old spoke in depth about his battle to get sober in a series of Instagram videos, something which Tom described as "brave" in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight.

"As a parent, you love your kids unconditionally," Tom said. "You support them every step of the way. You've got to applaud the bravery and honesty when it actually comes out of your own house."
Tom is also overjoyed that his wife of 27 years has been given the all-clear following her breast cancer diagnosis, saying that her health is now "fantastic".
"She took on not only the crisis, but also the issues of women's cancers in a way that I thought was extremely brave and beautiful," he told Extra. "I'm glad we're not in high school, because I wouldn't have had the courage to talk to her in the hallway! I am a lucky man."
