Taylor Swift rings her mum when she gets anxious

October 8, 2015

She's the pop star with the Midas touch but even Taylor Swift has moments of doubt. When that happens there's one person she can always turn to for a pep talk. The 25-year-old's mother Andrea helps her put things into perspective.

"I'm in the news every single day for multiple different reasons. If you let your anxiety get the better of you, like everybody's waiting for you to really mess up, then you'll be done," she told NME magazine. "A lot of the time I call my mom and talk for a really long time, just to remind myself of all the things that are great and that matter."

In the last few months it's been Taylor's turn to be a rock for her mother. The songbird, who is dating über DJ Calvin Harris, recently revealed that her mother has been suffering from cancer.

In a heartfelt post to fans on her Tumblr page the singer said that Andrea only went for a health check last Christmas to stop Taylor and her brother Austin nagging her.

The Grammy winner wrote: "She wanted you to know because your parents may be too busy juggling everything they've got going on to go to the doctor, and maybe you reminding them to go get checked for cancer could possibly lead to an early diagnosis and an easier battle…

"She wanted you to know why she may not be at as many shows this tour. She's got an important battle to fight."

When Taylor's 1989 tour comes to an end, she plans to take time out to have a normal life, and that will of course include spending quality time with her family.

"I think I should take some time off. People might need a break from me. I'm going to hang out with friends. Write new music," she said.

One of the reasons Taylor frequently hits the news is her so-called Twitter feuds like the recent one with Nicki Minaj.

Now she tries to defuse rows with a personal message rather than a tweet. "I send text messages now. If there seems to be some kind of misunderstanding, I go to someone's management, I get their number and I text them. It's an important lesson for anyone to learn in 2015."
