Lamar Odom 'slowly making progress' after waking up from coma

October 19, 2015

Lamar Odom is making a very gradual recovery, having woken up from his coma on Friday. According to various reports the basketball player, who was found unconscious in a legal brothel last week, seems to be heading in the right direction.

The 35-year-old former NBA star is said to be communicating with his hands and has managed to say a few words to his estranged wife Khloé Kardashian.

Khloé, 31, has been at Lamar's side since he was admitted to hospital in Las Vegas on Tuesday.

"Lamar is slowly making progress. Today has been a good day," a source told E! News on Sunday, adding, "There's a lot of praying going on."

The athlete, who left his hospital bed and was moved into a chair, has reportedly said "Hey baby" and "Good morning" to Khloé since waking up, although he is still struggling to communicate.

He is able to breathe on his own without the help of a ventilator – another good sign for the basketball star, who is set to turn 36 in a couple of weeks.

Lamar was found unconscious in a legal brothel on Tuesday, having suffered a drug overdose. Doctors are still running tests to determine if the athlete, who has a history of substance abuse, will suffer any long-term damage.

"She is still scared and still concerned," a source said of Khloé

Khloé has been working with doctors to ensure that her ex-partner receives the best possible care, the source added, while another insider said that Khloé "won't leave his side".

The Keeping Up with the Kardashians favourite "is happy Lamar is off the ventilator and is breathing on his own, but she is still scared and still concerned," a family source told People. "He's woken up and his heart is stronger, but there is still concern about his organs."

Khloé has been joined by her sisters Kim, Kourtney, Kendall and Kylie and their mum Kris Jenner, who have all visited Lamar in hospital. The sportsman's two children Destiny and Lamar Odom Jr. from his previous relationship, and their mother Liza Morales, also flew to Nevada.

Over the weekend Kim shared a throwback image of herself and Lamar at her wedding last year, and seemed to hint that the recovering star was on the mend.

"I have faith in you," wrote Kim. "I believe in the power of prayer and positive energy! Thank you all for your prayers! Lammy – I'm so happy Kendall & I could make you smile today! God is good!"
