EastEnders actress Natalie Cassidy is celebrating after her boyfriend Marc Humphreys popped the question as they marked their first anniversary as a couple. On their marriage the hunky BBC cameraman will become stepfather to her five-year-old daughter Eliza. Friends and family have apparently been buying them gifts to toast the wonderful news.
A spokesman confirmed the news of the engagement to the Daily Mail, saying: "She is really happy".
Natalie has indeed been looking more content than ever since she started seeing Marc. He brought the smile back to her face after the end of her relationship with Eliza's father Adam Cotterell two years ago.
A source told Closer magazine last year: "Finding love with Marc has given her a whole new lease of life. She's even hinted that she may be ready to be a mum again.
"She would love a brother or sister for Eliza. She and Marc have spoken about starting a family when they're settled in their new home."
The 32-year-old, who has played Sonia Fowler on and off since the age of 10, lived through some difficult experiences. As well as the volatile relationship with Eliza's father, she was forced to cope with the grief of losing her mother Evelyn when she was 19.
Sonia said her EastEnders family helped her work through her loss. “Being here got me through everything,” she told the Mirror. “You’re like a family. You’ve got people to talk to and people to help you. I felt very lucky.”
Then came another blow when the TV favourite Wendy Richards, who played her character's mother-in-law Pauline Fowler, died of breat cancer.
Now though, she has a new life to look forward to with Marc. Earlier this year Sonia said: "All I know is that I’m really happy. I am the most content I’ve ever been. It’s brilliant. I’m in a lovely place right now. Work’s good, life’s good, family are good. It’s all good.”
