Simon Cowell dedicates award to late mother and father

Joined by the entire X Factor family and his gorgeous leading lady, Simon Cowell was honoured with one of the music business' most prestigious prize at a ceremony in London's Grosvenor House Hotel on Monday. On an emotional night, the pop mogul received the Music Industry Trusts Award, dedicating the honour to his late father and mother, who died earlier this year. He went on to say that he hoped his toddler son Eric would be attend the ceremony with him in 23 years time.

The 56-year-old was handed the trophy by his chart-topping protégés One Direction, who have conquered the world with his guidance.

Speaking for the boys, Liam Payne said: "When we started on X Factor we could never have imagine how Simon would change our lives." He also praised his boss for being "incredible to work with, so lovely, so humble and approachable at all times".

Rochelle and Marvin Humes were also at the Music Industry Trusts gala

He and partner Lauren Silverman made a striking couple as they arrived in their finery earlier that evening, having left 20-month-old Eric at home. Lauren, 38, was on elegant form as usual in a strapless evening gown and diamonds.

Simon describes his son as "a very happy, happy" baby and says he is hoping for more children. However, the gala was all about having a grown up time with friends and colleagues.

Cheryl on typically glamorous form

The duo mingled with celebrities including Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Caroline Flack, Fleur East, Olly Murs and Rochelle and Marvin Humes. Also on exuberant form were Sinitta and Louis Walsh who had a giggle on the red carpet together. Later the 1,000 guests listened to performances by Olly, Il Divo, Leona Lewis and Labrinth.

Simon is in illustrious company as previous recipients include Kylie Minogue, Sir Tom Jones, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Gary Barlow and Glastonbury creator Michael Eavis. The award recognises not only his contributions to music and entertainment but also to charitable causes.
