The mother of Jim Carrey's late girlfriend, Cathriona White, has spoken out about the loss of her daughter for the first time. In an interview with People magazine, Brigid Sweetman described the note that she left on her daughter's grave: "It said if I could hold her just once again, I would never let her go. "Brigid, whose daughter took her own life on 28 September at her Los Angeles home, said: "When I heard she died like that, I couldn't believe it."
"Cathriona was born just 2lb 2oz, and she had to fight so hard to live and I had to fight so hard to keep her alive. "A baby that size takes a lot of loving to pull through. But she did, and from then on, she fought for everything. "The 55-year-old added that her make-up artist daughter had told her she loved living in the US and planned to stay there.

She said she loved her work and the weather there, that it was summer all year round. "The Irish native met Jim Carrey at her daughter's funeral, which was held in Co Tipperary in October. Jim dated the aspiring actress on-and-off for three years between 2012 and 2015, although it has been revealed that she married an LA based cameraman in a secret Las Vegas ceremony in 2013.Cathriona's mum also opened up about the criticism she has received since her daughter's death: "Yes, we had had an argument. But what family doesn't argue at some time?"
"It was over nothing and it would have been resolved. It's just hard when your daughter is on the other side of the Atlantic, you can't put your arms around her. "She added: "She was loved, she was so loved and I know she knew that."
