David Beckham arrives in Antarctica for fifth game of global football tour

November 11, 2015

No one could blame David Beckham for getting cold feet ahead of his latest football match. The 40-year-old has arrived in Antarctica for the fifth leg of his football challenge, for which he will play seven football matches on seven continents to promote his charity work for UNICEF.

David was clearly awestruck by his latest destination as he shared a photo of himself next to the snowy pitch. The father-of-four was wrapped up against the cold in a red hooded jacket, beanie and sunglasses, with the crisp snowy landscape behind him.

"Just marked the pitch out… Anyone see the corner flag behind me?? game 5 Antarctica WOW no words!!!! #loveofthegame @unicef," David captioned the image.

Another photo showed a football on the pitch ahead of the match with a stunning mountain backdrop for what is set to be the coldest match of David's football career.

Antarctica is the latest stop on David's whirlwind worldwide football tour, and follows a short visit to Argentina, where he played with local youngsters in one of Buenos Aires' poorest neighbourhoods.

He had travelled from Djibouti in the Horn of Africa, where he visited a refugee camp. The former England football captain bonded with families at the Ali Addeh camp, which is home to over 10,000 refugees from Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia. UNICEF is working to provide life-saving vaccines to children in the camp.

David's trip will culminate with an emotional return to Old Trafford on Saturday 14 November where he will captain Great Britain XI against the Rest of the World, led by Zinedine Zidane.

The 40-year-old's first match was in Papua New Guinea, where he first had to make a ball followed by a second game in Nepal.
