November 13, 2015

He's had legions of fans backing him throughout his Harry Potter years and beyond, but Daniel Radcliffe had to pay a special tribute to his parents when he was honoured with a Hollywood Walk of Fame star on Thursday.

Daniel thanked his mum Marcia and dad Alan – who had flown out to Los Angeles especially for the ceremony – for their love and support.

Taking to the stage, the 26-year-old admitted that he had been dealt a good hand in life, but it all started at birth when he was raised by such incredible parents.

"The seeds of all my luck were sown at the very beginning 26 years ago when I got you as parents," said Daniel Radcliffe

"I talk about luck a lot," said Daniel. "I was very lucky to get the part of Harry. I was lucky I enjoyed working long hours right from the word go, and I've been lucky enough to be able to continue my career and work with people I love in the years since Potter finished."

Turning to his mum and dad, Daniel, who is an only child, added: "But the seeds of all my luck were sown at the very beginning 26 years ago when I got you as parents. So thank you and I love you and thank you very much everybody."

The former Harry Potter star was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday

The child star, who was 11 when he made his Harry Potter debut, spoke at length about his good fortune. After the J.K. Rowling series Daniel went on to feature in The Woman in Black, Equus and Kill Your Darlings among other stage and film productions.

One of his most recent projects sees him starring as Igor in Victor Frankenstein alongside James McAvoy, for which the pair had to shave their heads.

"There have been many very, very, very good days in my life and there have been a few much less good ones," continued Daniel. "But regardless of what kind of day I was having, I was always lucky because there was always a film to make, and a film set to go to, and a crew of people waiting to make it with me."

"I will never stop feeling lucky to be here," said the 26-year-old

"Dog died, go make a movie. Failed some exams, go make a movie. Had your first kiss, go celebrate by making a movie," said Daniel. "If you get to work in this job, you are by sheer virtue of statistics one of the luckiest people on earth. None of us who are lucky enough to do this should ever forget that and I promise you that I won't, I will never stop feeling lucky to be here and to be a part of this."

During the ceremony Fulham-born Daniel was also presented with a framed version of his glittering star, which he said was "amazing".
