Many celebrities have taken to their social media pages to posts their thoughts and support for Paris after the city came under attack and saw more than 120 of its inhabitants killed.

Following the attacks, which saw gunman target a rock concert at the Bataclan theatre and a restaurant outside the Stade de France where the country’s football team was playing against Germany, many celebrities took to their Instagram, Twitter and Facebook to acknowledge the horrific shootings.

David Beckham, who once lived in Paris when he played for football team Paris Saint-Germain, took to his Instagram on Saturday morning posting a picture of the Parisian skyline writing: "As the sun rises in this beautiful city we remember the people that have died and the families that have lost loved ones... Our thoughts are with you all... PrayForParis."Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, whose French husband Jean-Bernard will no doubt be very worried for his home country, explained that she could not process the atrocities and simply captioned "Words fail me," alongside an image that read Pray For Paris.

Stars including Kate Hudson and Sam Smith chose to share a picture of Paris’ iconic Eiffel tower. Gigi Hadid’s younger sister Bella also shared the image and wrote: "My thoughts and prayers are with everybody in Paris tonight who has lost loved ones or are terrified for their lives. We are witnessing so much devastation around the world. Praying for all and my deepest condolences.. My favorite place in the world. I love you all and am thinking of you. #prayforparis#prayfortheworld"

American President Barack Obama was quick to speak about the eight deadly attacks. Giving a speech from the White House he called the attacks on the French capital an "outrageous attempt to terrorise innocent civilians". Condemning the acts of these radicals he said that this was “an attack on humanity” and that the world will do whatever it can to support France in its fight against terrorism. As an act of solidarity many famous monuments around the world were lit up in red, white and blue, the colours of the French flag.
