November 14, 2015

David Beckham officially hung up his boots two years ago but the footballing superstar has returned to the pitch and it’s all for a good cause. On Saturday the former Manchester United player will return to his old stomping ground, Old Trafford to play in a charity game alongside his former colleagues Ryan Giggs, Luis Figo and Ronaldinho.

The game forms part of the 40-year-old’s seven games on seven continents tour which he is doing in order to raise money and awareness for the children’s charity UNICEF. This is the final leg of his tour; so far he has played games in Papua New Guinea, Buenos Aires, Djibouti on the Horn of Africa, Miami and Antarctica. On Wednesday the heavily-tattooed star played the penultimate game of his tour in Antarctica. Awestruck by the beautiful surroundings he posted a picture on his social media saying: "Just marked the pitch out… Anyone see the corner flag behind me?? Game 5 Antarctica WOW no words!!!! #loveofthegame @unicef"

For his final game David will captain a Great British XI managed by his old friend and former manager Sir Alex Ferguson. His team will play against a Rest of the World team which will be captained by footballing hero Zinedine Zidane and managed by Carlo Ancelloti.Speaking about the project the former England international said: "I remember sitting on a plane and discussing this idea with friends and never thinking it would become a reality. I'm genuinely excited now we can realise this ambitious idea."

"Whether as a player or out in the field for UNICEF and other charitable partners, I have seen the transformational effect that sport and in particular football has on people's lives. This epic journey will allow me to show the positive side of the game I love and shine a light on the passion and selflessness of people that play this sport as a force for good."
