He leaves fans swooning in his wake but David Beckham seemed genuinely suprised to be named 2015's sexiest man alive. In an Instagram post about the accolade from People magazine, the 40-year-old sports hero said that he thought he was past his sell-by date but that his mother would be pleased.
David Beckham says these type of awards make him feel shy
Writing to his 15.2 million followers, Becks said: "I thought I was past my sell by date but thanks to People Magazine for the accolade and the compliment!
"I always feel a little shy when receiving these Awards, though it will make my Mum happy. This one the kids will laugh at, as they see what Daddy looks like in the morning!"
Someone else who will be delighted is his wife Victoria Beckham, who recently spoke of their strength as a couple after 16 years of marriage, telling Grazia magazine: ""I am blessed to have a wonderful husband and beautiful, healthy, happy children."
David's close bond with their four children is probably one of the reasons that he was chosen. Since retiring from football, the father-of-four has revealed that he has become the family chauffeur.
He recently unveiled two new tattoos in their honour – one a figure drawn by daughter Harper and another a message from his boys that says: "We love you daddy".
And fatherhood inspires the other important role in his life, his charity work with UNICEF. David has just come back from his global football tour to raise money for the children's organisation.
He played seven games in seven continents, travelling to countries as far flung as Argentina and Papua Guinea, ending with a match as his former home Old Trafford, watched by three of his children, Harper, Romeo and Cruz as well as Prince Harry who shook hands with each of them.
