Congratulations Adele! After her rip-roaring successful comeback, it's perhaps no surprise that the Brit's new album 25 has become the best-selling album of the year.

It was released last Friday by XL Recordings and according to Nielsen, the company that tracks music sales, it had already shifted 2.3 million copies by Monday morning.

The super sale outperformed the title previously held by Taylor Swift's 1989, which sold 1.2 million copies during the first week of release. It came out in October 2014 and has since sold over 5.3 million copies.

Adele's comeback single Hello rocketed straight to number one when it was first aired last month. It reached number one in not just the UK, but 27 other countries around the world.

Adele also broke the record for the most viewed video in 24 hours on Vevo. Hello totalled more than 27.7 million views on its first day, smashing Taylor's record of 20.1 million views for Bad Blood earlier this year.

The music video was directed by Canadian film-maker Xavier Dolan and features Adele with flashbacks of her ex-boyfriend who is played by Tristan Wilds, a former child actor from acclaimed crime series The Wire.

"In order for me to feel confident with one of my songs it has to really move me," said Adele

Speaking to The New York Times about her third studio album, Adele admitted she knows she has written a good song when she is moved by her own lyrics.

"In order for me to feel confident with one of my songs it has to really move me," Adele confided. "That's how I know that I've written a good song for myself – it's when I start crying. It's when I break out in tears in the vocal booth or in the studio, and I'll need a moment to myself."
