Facebook will turn 12 in February

Mark created Facebook in February 2004 in a bid to "help students at my college connect and bring our community together". In his post on Tuesday, Mark revealed that 1.5 billion people around the world now use the site to stay connected with their friends and family.

The 31-year-old is currently taking extended paternity leave from his role after he and wife Priscilla Chan welcomed their baby daughter Max at the end of November.
