Nick Carter was arrested in Florida on Wednesday night after getting into a fight. An eyewitness told TMZ that the Backstreet Boys star was involved in a scuffle inside the Hog's Breath Saloon in Key West, and was later taken into police custody.

The singer was booked for misdemeanour battery, but no further details about what led to his arrest have been released.

The surprise arrest comes just days after Nick said he was "living in the moment and enjoying every day" as he prepares to welcome his first child – a baby boy – with his wife Lauren Kitt.

The couple announced their pregnancy news in October, before discovering their baby's gender live on Dancing with the Stars the following week. Nick had recently opened up about his excitement at becoming a dad and the preparations they have been making ahead of their son's arrival.

"When it comes to the life I have [Lauren] is making the process really amazing and comfortable. It's cool to have some time to prepare," Nick told HollywoodLife.com. "I've really been thinking about living in the moment and enjoying every day that I have with my wife.

"I'm enjoying the process, because I've heard that your life will change and your priorities will change and that's great. So we are enjoying the time we have right now."

The 35-year-old also discussed baby names, telling the publication: "As far as baby names go, we've thought of some names, but we're keeping it under wraps, because we think we have some cool ones!"

Nick and Lauren tied the knot at the Bacara resort in Santa Barbara, California in April 2014, a year after he popped the question on an islet in the Florida Keys in front of her father and friends.
