"Words can neither describe our sorrow, nor our love and respect for all that he has given to us, his family, the music community & millions of fans worldwide."

Glenn co-founded Eagles in 1971 with Don Henley, Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon. He co-wrote some of the band's biggest songs, including Hotel California, which saw them captivate and inspire a new generation of musicians, including Keith Urban, Sheryl Crown and Harry Styles, all of whom paid tribute to the star on social media.

Meanwhile Harry Styles described Glenn as one of the "greatest ever", sharing an old black-and-white photo of the musician on Instagram.

"One of the greatest ever. He will be missed by so many. Rest in love and peace Mr. Frey," Harry wrote.
