She had faith in them from the beginning, even when some doubted they were strong enough contenders to reach The X Factor finals. But Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and her star act Reggie N Bollie have proved critics wrong.

The duo from Ghana have just been signed by Simon Cowell's record label Syco and showing her pride, Cheryl took to Instagram to celebrate the news.

"It is official!!! @reggienbollie have a record deal and have been signed by syco. I am so proud of them! & It couldn't have happened to two nicer people! #ReggienBolliewepopchampagne watch this space...," Cheryl wrote.

"I am so proud of them!" wrote Cheryl, who mentored Reggie N Bollie on The X Factor

Reggie and Bollie, who finished second to Louisa Johnson in the ITV show, also made the exciting announcement on Instagram, writing: "WE ARE SO HAPPY TO SHARE THE GOOD NEWS WITH YOU. WE ARE OFFICIALLY SIGNED TO SYCO MUSIC. Brahhhh!!!!"

The news was confirmed on Wednesday, with the pair saying it was "a dream come true" in a statement released by the record label. "We promise to work hard and show you all what Reggie and Bollie are made of. Here's to a fun 2016," they added.

The duo said: "We promise to work hard and show you all what Reggie and Bollie are made of"

Head honcho Simon, who has also signed previous contestants Fleur East and Ella Henderson to his label, has yet to comment publicly on the news.

His last tweet was posted on the night of The X Factor finals in December, when Simon gave a special mention to runners-up Reggie and Bollie. "And congrats to Reggie and Bollie," he tweeted. "The nicest people. They will sell records next year."

It sounds like the pair aren't the only ones who will be making new music soon. Their mentor Cheryl teased fans on Instagram at the start of the month, writing: "Think it's time for the.. Studio!!! It is 2016..."

Cheryl has reportedly begun divorce proceedings with her husband Jean-Bernard

Reggie N Bollie's success will come as welcome news to Cheryl. The 32-year-old is said to be divorcing her husband Jean-Bernard, whom she married in July 2014.

Writing in Best magazine, Cheryl's brother Tony explained that the X Factor judge "wasn't herself" throughout the series, adding that she looked "thin and frail, and appeared preoccupied and distant at times".
