David Beckham became the hero of the day on Monday when he bought hot drinks for a paramedic who was helping an elderly gentleman recover from a fall in central London.
The London Ambulance Service revealed the generous gesture on their Twitter account, sharing a picture which showed the former footballer posing with senior paramedic Catherine Maynard, who works with the Cycle Response Unit.
"Thank you David Beckham for buying a tea and coffee for Catherine and her patient #buyitlikebeckham", they wrote alongside the snap.
Paramedic Catherine Maynard explained that both her and the patient were very flattered by his kind act. "We were both very amused and flattered. I was so chuffed." she said.
Catherine had been trying to keep her patient warm as they waited for an ambulance near Endsleigh Street when she spotted someone walking past who resembled the father of four.
David Beckham was in Central London on Monday
"All of a sudden, I looked up and saw someone who looked like David Beckham walking past us. He said hello and got in his car. I said to the man I was treating, 'I think that was David Beckham'. Ten minutes later, he came back with a cup of coffee for me and a tea for the patient.
"It was awful cycling around in the cold today and I couldn't believe it when he came back with some hot drinks - I was so chuffed," she revealed.
The London Ambulance Service have since been inspired to ask their social media followers to show support for their ambulance crews by offering to buy them a tea or coffee and tweet a picture to @Ldn_Ambulance using #buyitlikebeckham.
