Sir Elton John is the doting dad to sons Zachary and Elijah, but the Candle In The Wind singer has admitted that he would have loved to have a daughter as well. Elton, who welcomed his first child with his husband David Furnish in 2010, was speaking to Ross King on Lorraine about his family life.

"I can truthfully say I wish I had done it earlier but we didn't," said Elton. "Because I would love to have a little girl – I would love to have a little girl. But we have two great boys and we are so grateful for that and they make our life all worthwhile, it's all about them now."

At five years old and three years old, there's no telling what professions the two boys will take up. But Elton and David are putting no pressure on their little ones.

"They are not going to become showbiz kids, we don't dress them in designer clothes, they just have a normal background," said Elton.

"They are not from a normal background, we are a very privileged couple, we live an incredibly privileged life and so it's hard to keep their feet on the ground, but so far so good.

"They know what daddy does, they know he's a singer but they are not that interested, they are more interested with their torches and their lego."

While Elton said that he has no plans to retire soon, the Grammy winner did admit that he would like to stop touring and travelling the world, in order to spend more time with his brood.

"There will come a time when I don't travel at all and I'll just do isolated residencies somewhere," said Elton. "Because you know it is about them and if you don't stop then what's the point in having children?"

The Pinner-born Brit and his Canadian husband welcomed son Zachary in December 2010, followed by Elijah in January 2013. Elton and David were legally married at their lavish estate in Berkshire in 2014, on the ninth anniversary of their civil partnership.
