When it comes to amicable exes, Elizabeth Hurley and Hugh Grant win hands down. The former couple dated for 13 years, between 1987 and 2000 – and more than a decade after their split remain incredibly close. "I hope we'll always be friends," Elizabeth said, during an appearance on Lorraine this week.
Elizabeth Hurley opened up about her enduring friendship with Hugh Grant
"I mean, we were together for 13 years and yes, we have been apart for 16 years no, so it is definitely longer. But he's still my best friend and he's very important to me."
She added: "I think families change. I think they used to be much more insular but now friends become as important as some family members sometimes – not your very close family, but you know distant cousins that you never see. Of course your friends are much more immediate."
The couple dated for 13 years before their split in 2000
The British actress, 50, appeared on the show to discuss the latest season of The Royals, and revealed that her 13-year-old son Damian is equally as passionate about the project."He loves being there (on set)," the glamorous star said. "We shoot right across the summer holidays, so actually there's not a lot of choice in that, but thank goodness he enjoys it even more than I do. So he sets my alarm every morning, he gets out my clothes for me, he runs my lines with me, he bullies me all day long!"
Elizabeth said she thinks son Damian will follow her into showbusiness
When asked by her host whether Damian – who is Hugh's godson – will follow in her footsteps, Elizabeth replied: "I don't know if he will be an actor. I think he will be in showbusiness. He might be behind the camera. He's quite despotic when he’s making his own little mini movies, he's quite good at it."I think he wants to run a studio, maybe employ his aging geriatric mother! We'll see, you never know."
