David Bowie's son announces he's to become a father

Duncan Jones – the son of David Bowie – announced on Wednesday that he is to become a father for the first time. Duncan, 44, shared his happy news on Twitter, and revealed that David had known about the baby before he passed away."1 month since dad died today. Made this card for him at Christmas. Due in June. Circle of life. Love you, grandad," the director wrote alongside a hand drawn picture of a baby in the womb, with a speech bubble that reads: "I'm waiting."

David Bowie's son Duncan Jones has announced he's going to be a father

Duncan is married to photographer Rodene Ronquillo, and the new arrival will be their first child – and David's first grandchild.Duncan is the only child from David's 10-year marriage to wife Angie. He has been estranged from his mother for nearly 30 years. It was Duncan who confirmed that his 69-year-old father had lost his 18-month fight with cancer on 10 January.

The director announced the happy news on Twitter

"Very sorry and sad to say it's true," he tweeted. "I'll be offline for a while. Love to all." The post was accompanied by photograph of the Life on Mars singer with his baby son.An additional statement was then posted on David's official Facebook page, which read: "David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family's privacy during this time of grief."

It's the first baby for Duncan and Rodene Ronquillo, who have been married since November 2012

Meanwhile, David's heartbroken wife of 23 years, Iman, marked the one month since his passing with a quote by Rune Lazuli, which read: "Each tear is a poet, a healer, a teacher."
