Demi Lovato has clarified the comments she made about Taylor Swift's $250,000 donation to Kesha and insisted she wasn't criticising the singer. The 22-year-old posted a series of tweets believed to have been directed at the Shake it Off performer on Sunday, but she has since said she was simply "fired up" at the time.

Taking to Instagram on Monday, Demi shared an infographic about sexual assault, and said she wanted the focus to remain on the victims and nothing else.

Demi Lovato clarified her comments about Kesha's court case

"As most people know, I tend to get fired up about the things I believe in, and although my heart and intentions are always in the right place, unfortunately sometimes my passion gets the best of me and causes me to say things that I probably shouldn't say," Demi wrote.

The Confident singer continued to express her support to victims of sexual and physical abuse, adding: "All I want to see is women coming together and actually making a difference."

It was previously suggested that Demi had criticised Taylor on Sunday evening, after writing: "Take something to Capitol Hill or actually speak out about something and then I'll be impressed."

Kesha is involved in an ongoing lawsuit with producer Dr Luke

She made the comments after it emerged that Taylor had donated $250,000 to Kesha to "help with any of her financial needs during this trying time". Taylor is just one of many stars to lend their support to Kesha during her ongoing legal battle, although she is yet to speak out about the issue.

Kesha filed a lawsuit against her producer Dr Luke in October 2014, saying that he has been abusive to her since she signed with him at the age of 18. He has denied the allegations, and Kesha has been unable to record new music for two years as she refuses to work with him.

On Friday, a New York judge denied Kesha a court injunction that would have allowed her to record music outside her record label, and the hashtag #FreeKesha quickly started trending on Twitter.

The support has not gone unnoticed by the 28-year-old, who tweeted to thank fans for their messages, writing: "Thank you for all the support in my legal case animals. I love all of you. It's meant the world to me. Xoxo".
