Mitch Winehouse has given his reason for why he hopes his late daughter Amy won't win a BRIT Award on Wednesday night. Five years after her death, the Valerie singer has been nominated for the Best British Female Solo Artist Brit award, as a result of the film Amy's soundtrack.

Adele is also in the running for the same accolade, and Mitch has admitted that he would rather the Hello singer won over his own daughter.

When questioned by Phillip Schofield on This Morning, Mitch stood by his beliefs and said: "Yeah, because it's as a result of the film, the soundtrack of the film. You know really, Adele should win it hands down, shouldn't she?"

Mitch Winehouse called the documentary film Amy a 'sham'

He added: "At least she's being nominated for her music, for the soundtrack from the film, so that's quite positive and it just shows you Amy's still up for awards five years after her passing."

Vocal of his distaste for the documentary film that came out last year, Mitch went on to say that Amy, which has been nominated for an Oscar, is "a sham".

"They left lots of stuff out," he said. "Anybody who was any part of Amy's life in the last three or four years was not in the film. Reg, her boyfriend, he was instrumental in making sure that she stayed off drugs.

"People don't realise after seeing that film, they still think she died of a drugs overdose. What kind of a film is it that leaves people in doubt how she died? No mention of that she was clear of drugs for three years."

He said of his daughter's BRIT nomination: "Adele should win it hands down, shouldn't she?"

Mitch has plans to make a second film, Letter To Amy, which will no doubt give his side of the story.

"We are moving towards, let's not call it a film, although it will probably end up as a film, working on a project called Letter To Amy, [including] people who have been excluded from that film, [with] a guy called Phil Griffin who did the Rehab and Back To Black documentaries and we're going to be working and doing our own thing," he said.

On Wednesday night fans will find out who has won the coveted BRIT Award. Adele has been nominated in three other categories, and the Someone Like You singer will also perform at the ceremony.
