Phillip Schofield and Holly Willougby had fans in stitches when they presented This Morning hungover, after a night of celebrating at the NTAs. Looking back at that painful experience, which saw the pair turn up to work still wearing last night's clothes, Phillip revealed it was his co-star's idea to "come out and play".

"There is always one of us that is quite sensible and so I was on my way home and I got a voicemail from Holly," Phillip said on Alan Carr's Chatty Man. "It was like a Martin Luther King voicemail.

"She said, 'Don't be that man. Don't be that man that goes home. Don't be that man that's professional. Don't be the man that missed the fun. Come out and play!'"

The much-loved presenters, who had just been crowned the winners of the Best Live Magazine category, had plenty of reason to celebrate.

"I said to my wife 'We are going out', and that's when it started," said Phillip. "The pictures you saw in the papers were taken about four minutes before we went live, and I said to Holly, 'What the hell are we doing? We shouldn't be doing this!' It was chaos."

"It was something of a mistake," he added. "But these things happen."

Phillip revealed it was Holly who convinced him to stay out and party

Phillip, 53, admitted that he and Holly weren't expecting to win the award. The pair took to Instagram to show fans how they were celebrating – by downing shots of tequila.

"Tequilaaaaaa," Phillip captioned a photo of himself, Holly and fellow presenter Rylan Clark. Holly shared a similar snap, grimacing as she posted: "Here we go!!!"

"This is the worst I've ever been. We are a proper mess!" laughed Phillip

The following morning Phillip and Holly were back at work, not looking so fresh-faced. A dishevelled Holly, who was still wearing her white evening gown, giggled as she told viewers: "You may have noticed that we are still wearing the same clothes. Um, I haven't been home yet! I came straight here."

"I can only apologise," said Phillip. "This is the worst I've ever been. We are a proper mess!"
