Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Liam Payne sent shockwaves through the celebrity world when news of their romance came to light. The couple's many friends and family have given their seal of approval, including one of Cheryl's close friends Perrie Edwards.

"I'm happy for her," said Perrie, who was previously engaged to Liam's ex-bandmate Zayn Malik.

She added to Mirror's 3am: "Whatever makes her happy I think is fine. Cheryl is a good friend of mine. She wants to do whatever makes her happy."

The two girls enjoy a close bond. When the Little Mix star called off her engagement to Zayn, Cheryl, who is reportedly in the middle of a divorce from her second husband Jean-Bernard, acted as a shoulder to cry on.

"Cheryl is incredible," Perrie told The Sun last month. "She has been a very good friend to me, particularly recently. She is the nicest person in the world. She knows what we've gone through and has great advice."

Cheryl, 32, and Liam, 22, have gone public with their romance

Cheryl, 32, and Liam, 22, are said to have secretly started dating at the end of last year, after the breakdown of Cheryl's marriage. While at first keen to keep their romance under wraps, the pair have now taken their relationship public and have been sharing sweet photos together on Instagram.

Earlier this week the X Factor judge posted a picture of the outline of a couple with their arms wrapped around each other, accompanied by the words: "I fall in love with souls, not faces."

Cheryl recently shared her thoughts on love

Alongside the simple message, Cheryl wrote a series of love heart emojis – leading many to assume the quote was meant for her new boyfriend.

The post comes amid reports that the Geordie beauty is worried intense public scrutiny is putting a strain on her relationship with Liam.

The couple have been secretly dating since December

"It was so perfect between them before everyone found out," a source told Heat magazine. "There was no pressure before – no judgements. They were able to go on their holiday to the Maldives together without anyone knowing or commenting.

"Now their every move is under scrutiny and Cheryl's scared that the pressure could prove too much and end up splitting them up."
