Ellie Goulding isn't ready to move on following her break-up from Dougie Poynter. The Anything Could Happen singer, who confirmed that she and Dougie had split earlier this month, has said she considers their relationship "an unfinished story".

Discovering the possibility of whether she and Dougie could get back together, Ellie told Heat magazine: "Maybe. I hope so. We have something I know is special and I think other people see it – my friends see it, my family see it… but I think some things are just kind of unfinished, an unfinished story.

Ellie Goulding has admitted she wants to get back with Dougie Poynter

"I hope so – he's a real gem and he's doing so well and he's keeping busy, as am I. He's a great guy."

Ellie confirmed that her two year relationship with Dougie had come to an end earlier this month, admitting to The Sun that it had been "tough" coming to terms with the split. The singer said that her busy touring schedule had helped her to keep her mind off things, and had nothing but positive things to say about her ex-boyfriend.

"People think I'm invincible but these past few weeks have been tough," Ellie told the newspaper. "I'm not in a relationship anymore and that's been hard."

She added: "Dougie is one of the most special people in the world and I'm so happy for them. He's doing well in LA and he's still one of my best friends. I know he feels the same."

The couple had been dating for two years and although they briefly reunited after a short break in December, it seems that their busy work schedules have finally proven too much.

Dougie has remained tight-lipped about the split. The McFly bassist is currently based in Los Angeles, where he is hoping to establish himself as an actor.
