Vernon Kay has issued a response to reports he was sending inappropriate messages to a model behind wife Tess Daly's back. The presenter was accused of being involved with Rhian Sugden again earlier this week, after his private text messages to her six years ago nearly ended his marriage.But Vernon, 41, has insisted the new texts to 29-year-old Rhian were above board, and Tess, 46, was aware of the communication. In a statement posted to Facebook, he claimed Rhian had new information about the 2010 scandal he needed to know.

"I was contacted by Rhian out of the blue back in December," he wrote. "Regarding the story in 2010 claiming she had new information she wanted to pass on. "I recognise how it may look when the messages are pulled out of context but there was never any inappropriate intent to our communication, I was merely trying to find out answers to questions I've had since 2010."Vernon finished: "Tess is aware of everything that has been discussed with Rhian."

A day after the story broke, Vernon was due to host The One Show but pulled out at the last minute. Although some reports claimed it was so he could hold 'crunch' talks with Tess, other sources insisted he has done nothing wrong.One told the Mirror: "The only thing Vernon is guilty of is responding to her messages when he should have left her well alone. He feels like he's been stitched up. "After Vernon was caught sending messages to Rhiann and four other women six years ago, Vernon publicly apologised to Tess on Radio 1.Vernon and Tess have been married since 2003, and are parents to Phoebe, 11, and six-year-old Amber.
