Andy Murray opens up about baby daughter in fun interview

April 3, 2016

Andy Murray laughed his way through an interview with little Ant and Dec on Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway as he spoke about fatherhood. The 28-year-old was in good spirits as he told Ant and Dec's mini-mes all about his experiences as a new dad.

The Wimbledon champion became a father for the first time to baby girl Sophia Olivia with wife Kim Sears earlier this year, and revealed how his duties include nappy changing. After little Ant and Dec congratulated him on becoming a parent and asked him if he changed his daughter's nappy, he said: "yeah, especially the dirty ones!" as the pair giggled.

He then laughed after they gave him a baby grow that read: "I've done a number 2 for the world's number 2," thanking them and saying: "I'll take that home with me, I'll use that tonight."

The cheeky chaps also teased Andy about his reputation for being reserved. Little Dec said: "My dad says you need to cheer up. Why are you sad all the time?"

Andy cheerfully replied: "I'm not grumpy all the time!"

Andy opened up about his new role as a father during an interview earlier this month, telling The Guardian: "You see a small person and you think they're so fragile, or that their hands are so small that when you're putting their fingers through their top they could maybe break."

"But when you see all the midwives – and Kim has a good friend who is a midwife – they're a lot rougher and they do things much more quickly. Lots of people have told me babies are a lot more resilient than you think. They're not going to break."
