The last place you'd expect to find a big Hollywood actor is in a quiet country pub in Hertfordshire. But staff at the Chequers Inn in Redbourn were left starstruck when Matt Damon dropped in for a pint on Monday night.Although 45-year-old Matt attempted to keep a low profile, it wasn't long before his cover was blown – and he reacted in the best way possible.
Matt Damon fancied a pint of Guinness - and ended up forking out almost £300!
Speaking to HELLO! Online, deputy manager Marcus Fairall explained: "When Matt first came in, we couldn't tell if it was really him. But then somebody else came into the pub and said, 'Oh my God, I've just seen Matt Damon!'"He was just looking for a quiet drink in a country pub, but then everybody found out who he was and he was really chatty and funny, he spoke to all the guests, signed autographs and had pictures – he was just a really nice guy."
Matt happily posed for selfies with star struck locals
Although you might not expect The Martian star to travel alone, there was no sign of a huge A-list entourage. Instead, Marcus revealed Matt was joined by one friend and their driver. He continued: "He was just normal, he wasn't looking to own the place. "Matt had a few pints of Guinness before heading off to Luton airport to catch his private jet. "And Matt made sure he left a lasting impression on the staff with an extremely generous tip. Marcus added: "For the barman and each of the three waitresses we had on he left a $100 note (£70). They loved it, but all tried to get him to sign the notes but he said he wasn't allowed to. Instead he signed paper for each of them and they're all going to frame them along with the notes. They're not changing them up. "Marcus revealed that, unsurprisingly, in the three years that he's worked at the Chequers Inn they've never had anybody of Matt's calibre in the pub – but something tells us quiet country locations close to international airports will soon become the best places to spot Hollywood superstars!
