Catfish star Ashley Sawyer dies aged 23

Catfish star Ashley Sawyer has passed away aged 23, it has been confirmed. The cause of her death is currently unknown, and co-host Max Joseph lead the tributes.Sharing two pictures of them together on the MTV show, Max wrote: "Shocked and saddened by the death of Ashley Sawyer. So sweet and kind. Thoughts and prayers go out to her family."

Ashley's sister Jessica Ross told MTV News: "We had a great relationship. I know she knows how much I loved her and she loved me, and I am so sad that she's gone. She was so funny, she could make me laugh on my absolute worst day. She was just a really fun person to be around. "MTV also released a statement, which read: "MTV is deeply saddened to learn that Ashley Sawyer has passed away. Our condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends."

Ashley first appeared on the second season of the docu-series in 2013, during which viewers discovered she and her online boyfriend of seven-years, Michael Fortunato, had sent each other false images of themselves.

However, they met up on the programme and discovered that the feelings were still there. Tragically Michael died of pulmonary embolism just a month after their first real life meeting was shown on TV.

Max re-visited Ashley for a recent instalment of the series, and viewers were told she was struggling with addiction and staying at a sober-living home. But it's been reported that, shortly before her death, Ashley was following a sober lifestyle, had found a job and was living alone.
