Family and friends say goodbye to Victoria Wood in service 'full of laughter'

Victoria Wood was laid to rest in service "full of laughter" as her family and friends came together to remember the late comedian this week. Julie Walters was among those who joined Victoria's children Grace, 27, and Henry, 23, for the intimate and private ceremony, which was held in Golders Green in North London on Wednesday.Victoria passed away on 20 April aged 62 after a "short but brave" battle with cancer, and her loved ones were determined that her funeral should reflect and honour the joy that she brought to the lives of so many.

"It was a small and private affair, which is what Victoria wanted," a source told the Sun. "The family were very conscious that they didn't want cameras. Julie was one of her closest friends from the entertainment industry who attended. "There was a strong element of humour as everyone knew that was what she wanted. She spent her life making people laugh, so a light-hearted and celebratory tone was appropriate. The service was full of laughter."

Victoria has a successful career spanning more than four decades, and was known for her outstanding performances in British comedies including Dinnerladies and Victoria Wood As Seen on TV.

She rose to fame in 1974 after appearing on TV talent show New Faces, but her big break came two years later when she starred in BBC's That's Life!.Her long-term collaborations with comedy partner Julie were a big part of Victoria's career. Following her death, Julie said she was "too heart-sore to comment – the loss of her in incalculable".Jennifer Saunders also paid a heartfelt tribute to Victoria, saying: "Can't believe Vic has gone. She was truly an inspiration and had so much left to give and we won't see it. She was so funny." Fellow comedian Dawn French added: "All of us, bow down to Vic Wood. There will never be another. Fact."
