Girls actor Nick Lashaway dies aged 28

Nick Lashaway has died aged 28. The American actor, who was best known for his roles in HBO's Girls and The Last Song, was tragically killed in a car accident on Sunday.

Tributes began pouring in for the actor, who was best known for playing Jessa's stepbrother Frank in Girls. Leading the touching messages was Girls creator Lena Dunham, who shared her memories with Nick during their time together on the show.

Tributes have poured in for the actor

Posting a photo of herself with Nick to Instagram, Lena captioned the picture: "Just heard the incredibly sad news that Nick Lashaway was killed in a car accident on May 8th. Nick was such a talented, funny and kind person and we were so lucky to have him as a part of our Girls family when he played Frank in episode 207.

"We will always remember the week we shared with him, his playful smile, his easy instincts, how much he made us laugh even when we had to stay up all night in the woods. We are sending love to his family and friends and feeling such gratitude for his gifts. RIP sweet Nick."

Friends and colleagues of the actor also took to Twitter to pay tribute, with filmmaker Richard Shephard tweeting: "Sad news. Nick Lashaway who was so great in my GIRLS ep "Video Games" has died at 28. Funny, sweet & talented. RIP", while the actor's friend Matt Sukker tweeted: "Rest In Peace Nick Lashaway. Looking forward to the day we meet again."

The actor had a successful career, beginning in 1998 when he portrayed a young Fox Mulder in The X-Files. Nick then went on to star in roles in US sitcom The Office and Justin Timberlake sci-fi film In Time.
