Whitney Houston's estate cancel hologram duet with Christina Aguilera

May 20, 2016

The Whitney Houston estate have cancelled a planned duet between Christina Aguilera and a hologram of the late singer. The performance was due to air during the finale of The Voice US at the end of May, however Whitney's loved ones decided the hologram was not at a high enough standard to be shown on TV.

Pat Houston, the executor of Whitney's estate, explained the decision in a statement released to Entertainment Tonight on Thursday.

A planned duet between Christina Aguilera and a Whitney Houston hologram has been cancelled

"We are so appreciative of the opportunity for the Whitney Houston hologram to appear on NBC's The Voice with a talent pairing as extraordinary as Christina Aguilera and Whitney Houston," Pat said. "We were looking to deliver a ground breaking duet performance for the fans of both artists."

The statement continued: "Holograms are new technology that take time to perfect, and we believe with artists of this iconic calibre, it must be perfect. Whitney's legacy and her devoted fans deserve perfection. After closely viewing the performance, we have decided the hologram was not ready to air.

"We have much respect and admiration for Christina, and she was absolutely flawless."

Pat Houston said the hologram was not up to par

It emerged earlier in May that Christina would perform a tribute to the How Will I Know singer, who she has often cited as an inspiration for her career. However she refused to confirm rumours, telling Entertainment Tonight: "I am sworn to secrecy. I can't say anything, but I'm very excited about the finale. Very exciting things happening."

Plans to create a Whitney Houston hologram were first announced in September 2015. At the time Pat Houston said it would "continue a legacy" of performances, and the hologram would perform a selection of Whitney's greatest hits on a headline tour in 2016.
