Demi Lovato has split from her long term boyfriend, Wilmer Valderrama. The couple released a joint statement confirming the news that they had decided to end their 6-year relationship on Friday, calling the decision "incredibly difficult."
The Give Your Heart a Break singer tweeted their statement, which read: "After almost 6 loving and wonderful years together, we have decided to end our relationship.

"This was an incredibly difficult decision for both of us, but we have realised more than anything that we are better as best friends. We will always be supportive of one another. Thank you to everyone who has offered us kindness and support over the years."
The star's loyal followers have been quick to offer their support to the singer and her ex-boyfriend, with one tweeting: "honestly you have to follow your heart and if that's what is best then I support you," while another wrote: "I am so sorry to hear that. I hope you'll both be fine and I wish you the best as being best friends."
The singer had spoken about her boyfriend in an interview on The Ellen Show back in February, hinting that she might be ready to get engaged to the actor. After Ellen DeGeneres asked if she and Wilmer were engaged, she said: "I don't see a ring. I wouldn't mind if I saw one."
The couple began dating in 2010
The news of the couple's break up comes in the same week that Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris announced their split after a high profile 15-month relationship. After People magazine reported that the couple had decided to part ways, with a source revealing: "There was no drama. Things just don't work out sometimes. No one cheated," Calvin tweeted about the split, ending rumours about why they had decided to end their relationship.
He wrote: "The only truth here is that a relationship came to an end & what remains is a huge amount of love and respect." Taylor then retweeted the post, suggesting that the two of them ended their romance on good terms.
