Malia will attend Harvard after taking a year out

The President has previously opened up about her daughter graduating from school on The Ellen Show. Chatting to Ellen DeGeneres, Barack revealed why he wouldn't be making a speech at his daughter's graduation as he would be too upset. "I'm going to be wearing dark glasses, sobbing. I'm going to cry," he joked.

"I'm not ready for her to leave. She's one of my best friends. It's going to be hard for me not to have her around all the time, but she's ready to go. She's just a really smart, capable person and she's ready to make her own way."

He also chatted about his eldest daughter on The Tonight Show, telling show host Jimmy Fallen: "I think Malia ... is very eager to get out of [the White House]."

Barack revealed he would cry when his daughter graduates

The President's daughter has already revealed plans to attend Harvard Law School after taking a gap year. She made the decision after touring around several universities with her parents, and Michelle has spoken to Seventeen magazine about helping her two daughters, Malia and Sasha, 14, choose a university that is right for them.

She said: "The one thing I've been telling my daughters is that I don't want them to choose a name. I don't want them to think, 'Oh I should go to these top schools.' We live in a country where there are thousands of amazing universities. So, the question is: What's going to work for you?"
