Liam Hemsworth has defended this engagement to Miley Cyrus in 2012, denying that it was "impulsive." The Hunger Games actor, who has recently reconciled with Miley following their break-up in September 2013, asked the Wrecking Ball singer to marry him when he was just 22, but said it was a "well thought-out idea" at the time.

He told News.com.au: "I don't think that was impulsive. That was a well thought-out idea."

Liam denied the decision to get engaged was impulsive

The now 26-year old Australian actor echoed those words in a recent interview with GQ Australia. Speaking about his relationship with Miley, he said: "I make my decisions about what's going to make me happy, what I think is right and what I want to do – and I don't worry too much outside of that.

He also opened up about their break-up, admitted it was "hard." He said: "Of course it was hard. But at the time we were going in different directions and it's just what needed to happen. We were both super young and it was a good decision at the time – we both needed that."

When asked if he was dating the former Hannah Montana star again, the actor replied: "People will figure it out, they already have…they're not dumb."

Miley and Liam are rumoured to have rekindled their romance

Miley herself sparked rumours that their romance had been rekindled by posting a snap of herself wearing her engagement ring earlier this year. Since then, the couple had been seen out together several times, and on Monday the 23-year-old posted a snap of herself wearing a T-shirt with 'Hemsworth' emblazoned on the back.

She also opened up about how close the pair remained after the break-up, telling ELLE magazine: "Me and Liam are still so close and we love each other, and they make it like there is negativity."
