She's expecting their second child later this year, but Blake Lively has revealed how she and Ryan Reynolds nearly placed each other firmly in the friend zone. The actress appeared on SiriusXM to promote new movie The Shallows, and expanded on Ryan's story about their first double date – with other people.
Earlier this year Ryan confessed that, a year after working together on Green Lantern, he and Blake, 28, attempted to date other people, but quickly realised they only had eyes for each other. He said: "That was the most awkward date for the respective partners, because [Blake and I] were just, like, fireworks."
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds fell in love on a date - with other people
After watching the clip of 39-year-old Ryan's interview, Gossip Girl star Blake joked: "It went well for him, there were no fireworks for me! No, we were such good friends for so long. When we got to know each other, we got to know each other friends. So we were both single and we were still trying to find each other's… So, 'Who would be good for you?' And we'd be like, 'Oh, do you know anyone?'"
Blake confirmed they were expecting again at the Cannes Film Festival
And it wasn't until more than a year after becoming friends that the penny finally dropped for them both. Blake continued: "It was like, 'Oh, hey, wait, we could date!' But that's what I appreciate about our relationship: He's my friend, first and foremost, still. Not just in our history, but in everyday life. He's my friend first and I think that's the secret to happiness. I don't know the secret to happiness, but it's the secret to my happiness, at least."
In April it was reported that Blake and Ryan – who are parents to one-year-old daughter James – were expecting their second child. While they've yet to give an official comment on the news, Blake couldn't resist confirming the news by flaunting her blossoming bump at the Cannes Film Festival just weeks later.
