Nick Knowles has tweeted his support to Jessica following her shocking cancer diagnosis
"After a brief period of being unwell I was unfortunately diagnosed, this week, with cervical cancer," she wrote. "Following on from a difficult year it has forced me to put a lot of things into perspective and really brought to light what matters; my health and Eddie."
She added: "I have been so overwhelmed with love from friends and family and am a huge believer in 'things happening for a reason' and this will undoubtedly be a huge time of learning for me.
"Mostly I'm grateful and feeling incredibly lucky that it has been caught early and we are hopeful I can be treated with surgery."
The couple were married for three years before announcing their split in January
Nick, 53, and Jessica split in January after three years of marriage, and earlier this month she admitted to HELLO! magazine that Nick's decision to end their marriage had "blindsided" her.
Nevertheless, the former couple remain on very good terms; in April she accompanied Nick to the premiere of the film Golden Years, which he had written and executive produced. They are also devoted parents to their young son.
"Nick is the most wonderful father to Eddie and they adore one another," she told HELLO!. "His face completely lights up whenever he sees Nick."
