He might have just won Wimbledon, but that didn't stop Andy Murray from getting a little star-struck when he came face-to-face with Benedict Cumberbatch on Sunday. Benedict was one of the first to congratulate the new tennis champion following his impressive win on centre court – and Andy couldn't help but quiz the actor about the new series of Sherlock.

A video posted on Wimbledon's official Twitter page, titled 'Benedict Cumberbatch meets his biggest fan…' shows Benedict and his wife Sophie Hunter praising Andy for his performance in the final. Still holding his trophy, Andy tells the star: "I'm a massive fan. A huge, huge fan!"

"Likewise, likewise, thank you very much," Benedict responds. "Really, it was very inspiring to watch, really."

Rather than take compliments, however, Andy was keen to find out what Benedict has been "up to". "I'm doing Sherlock at the moment," the Oscar-nominee revealed.

Andy can be seen breaking into a big smile and doing a fist-pump, before finding out from the actor that there will be three new episodes to look forward to.

Talk then turned to Andy's baby daughter. Benedict and Sophie welcomed their baby son Christopher last year, and the star thoughtfully asked after five-month-old Sophia. "Yeah, she's great," Andy replied, revealing that Sophia had slept through the night for the first time just three days before the final.

Benedict and Sophie were spotted cheering on Andy during the final alongside stars including Bradley Cooper, Irina Shayk, Lily James, Hugh Grant and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Just one day earlier, Beyoncé and Jay Z were seen supporting Serena Williams at the women's final as she equalled Steffi Graf's record of 22 Grand Slam titles in the open era.
