David Cameron's five-year-old daughter Florence steals the show as family leave 10 Downing Street

July 14, 2016

It was a night to remember as David Cameron and his family bid farewell to 10 Downing Street on Wednesday. But while the former Prime Minister was saying goodbye outside his front door, all eyes were on his five-year-old daughter Florence.

The adorable little girl managed to share the spotlight, clutching onto her mum Samantha's dress and smiling shyly at the dozens of reporters and cameras poised in front of her.

David Cameron thanked his wife Samantha for keeping him "vaguely sane"

The Camerons, who usually keep their children out of the spotlight, were making a very public departure from the place they have called home for the past six years.

David, 49, paid tribute to his wife Samantha and their three children as he gave a poignant speech.

"I want to thank my children – Nancy, Elwen and Florence – for whom Downing Street has been a lovely home over these last six years," he said. "They sometimes kick the red boxes full of work.

The family said goodbye before David tendered his resignation at Buckingham Palace

"Florence – you once climbed into one before a foreign trip and said 'take me with you'. Well no more boxes.

"And above all I want to thank Samantha, the love of my life. You have kept me vaguely sane and as well as being an amazing wife, mother and businesswoman, you have done something every week in that building behind me to celebrate the best of voluntary service in our country."

10 Downing Street was Florence Cameron's first home

Samantha, 45, smiled back at her husband. The fashion designer was her usual impeccable self in a colourful £1,495 Roksanda dress. She chose matching floral dresses for her two girls, with 12-year-old Nancy donning a green printed I Love Gorgeous frock and Florence wearing a similar sweet pink one.

Shortly after the family's appearance, David headed to Buckingham Palace to officially tender his resignation.

The Camerons then moved into their new temporary home to make way for new Prime Minister Theresa May.
