On the day of her first wedding anniversary, Beatrice Borromeo attended the funeral of her late grandmother Marta Marzotto, who passed away on Friday at the age of 85. Beatrice was supported by her husband Pierre Casiraghi, Princess Caroline of Monaco's son, at the funeral held at Sant'Angelo Church in Milan.
The journalist bid farewell to her grandmother at Monday's service alongside other family members, including her mum Paola.
Guests also included Franca Sozzani, Vogue Italia's longstanding editor-in-chief, and chef Gianfranco Vissani.
Beatrice Borromeo's grandmother passed away on Friday
Beatrice bent down to kiss her grandmother's coffin as she left the church. The statuesque blonde kept her eyes shielded behind a pair of sunglasses, and wore a classic black dress for the sombre affair.
She confirmed the death of her grandmother, a fashion designer from Italy, on Friday by sharing a photo on Twitter. "Goodbye my beloved grandmother," she wrote in Italian.
Marta's family also released a statement, announcing: "Marta Marzotto passed away in her sleep this morning after a brief illness. She was serene and surrounded by her children and grandchildren, who were always by her side in the past few months, witnessing her cheerfulness, irony and generosity that accompanied her until the last moment."
The journalist and her husband Pierre Casiraghi marked their first wedding anniversary
The past few days have been bittersweet for Beatrice, who has just marked her first wedding anniversary with her husband Pierre.
Beatrice and Pierre said "I do" at a religious wedding ceremony on the Borromean Islands exactly one year ago. They were legally wed a few days before in a civil ceremony in Monte Carlo.
Marta was among the famous guests at her granddaughter's religious ceremony in Italy. The pair enjoyed a close relationship and were often pictured sitting front row at fashion events or walking the red carpet in style.
Marta was a jewellery and fashion designer, who started off working as a seamstress before becoming a model. She married Count Umberto Marzotto, who she later divorced, in 1954 and the couple went on to have five children. Their eldest, daughter Paola, is Beatrice's mum.
