Happy 55th birthday Barack Obama! Michelle's very sweet greeting

August 4, 2016

On Thursday Barack Obama celebrated his 55th birthday, his last as resident of the White House and US organiser-in-chief. The politician's wife Michelle was one of the first to greet her husband on social media, sharing a very sweet photo of the couple.

Alongside the image of the president flashing a cheesy grin, Michelle wrote: "55 years young and that smile still gets me every single day. Happy birthday, Barack. I love you. –mo."

The photo was taken at the White House in May of this year, when Barack and Michelle were waiting for leaders to arrive for the Nordic state dinner.

Michelle posted a sweet caption: "55 years young and that smile still gets me every single day"

The picture showed a hint of Michelle's very stylish evening gown, a blush-coloured dress by New York-based designer Naeem Khan. The First Lady, who is known for her chic sartorial choices, looked stunning in the strapless number.

Barack and Michelle, who have been married for 24 years and share two daughters Malia and Sasha, are never shy to praise each other in public.

The First Lady recently gave an emotional speech at the Democratic National Convention in July, where she heaped praise on her husband and opened up about her daughters.

The president's Twitter account was decorated with balloons

"It's hard to believe that it has been eight years since I first came to this convention to talk with you about why I thought my husband should be president," said Michelle. "Remember how I told you about his character and conviction, his decency and his grace? The traits that we've seen every day since he's served our country in the White House."

"I also told you about our daughters," she added. "We urge them to ignore those who question their father's citizenship or faith. How we insist that the hateful language they hear from public figures on TV does not represent the true spirit of our country. We explain when someone is cruel or acts like a bully, you do not stoop to their level. Our motto is when they go low you go high."

After the speech, Barack took to Twitter to write: "Incredible speech by an incredible woman. Couldn't be more proud & our country has been blessed to have her as FLOTUS. I love you, Michelle."
