Zelda Williams takes a break from social media to remember Robin Williams 'privately' on anniversary

August 9, 2016

As the two year anniversary of Robin Williams' death approaches, his daughter Zelda has decided to withdraw from the public eye. Zelda took to Twitter on Sunday to announce her plans to quit social media for a while, and explained her decision to do so.

"It's that time of year again," the 27-year-old began her post. "For those who always ask why, it's so people can memorialise Dad on the anniversary of his death however they wish without me having to feel bombarded by it, or pressured by the expectation put on myself or my family to publicly acknowledge or join in doing so."

She continued: "I'll always be grateful for all the love the world had and continues to have for dad, but for obvious reasons, it's sometimes harder to be the sort of surviving public vessel for receiving those sentiments, and one often expected to somehow flawlessly express them back.

"Thus, I'll be excusing myself for a bit," she explained. "Hearts just need little breaks sometimes."

Zelda reiterated that her "main point" was that fans should "continue to remember Dad however you want" - but, she added: "I'll just be doing so privately."

Zelda's touching messages comes just a few weeks after she publicly remembered her father on what would have been his 65th birthday. "Still not really sure what to do on days like," she admitted at the time.

Robin took his own life on 11 August 2014 at the age of 63 - but he remains a source of inspiration for daughter. "A lot of what I try to do is interact with the world the way he did," she previously told ET. "He didn't care who someone was; he did a lot of work with the homeless, he did a lot of work with people in prison, as my mum does now, and he was always kind.

"It meant a lot to him, so I kind of hope to, if nothing else, be that."
