Iman stepped out for her first public event on Wednesday night, almost eight months after the death of her husband David Bowie. The retired supermodel is continuing to adjust to life without the singer, and managed to put on a brave face at her New York outing.

As Iman wrote on Instagram, it was her "first night out attending an event" since last year. David sadly passed away in January at the age of 69.

Iman was invited to Tom Ford's intimate New York Fashion Week show where she was reunited with another nineties beauty, Cindy Crawford. She snapped a selfie with her fellow model, writing: "With the lovely @cindycrawford @tomford tonight!"

Other names on the star-studded guest list included Cindy's husband Rande Gerber, Anna Wintour, Julianne Moore, Zayn Malik, Naomi Campbell, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson. Zayn's girlfriend Gigi Hadid walked in the show.

Iman, 69, looked sensational for her big night out, wearing a midnight blue velvet suit and a necklace featuring her late husband's name. She shared a selfie as she was getting ready, with her face prettily made up and her hair wrapped in a towel.

This year has proved a challenging and tough one for Iman. Less than three months after her husband died, Iman lost her mother Maryan Abdulmajid.

In June Iman marked what would have been her and David's 24th wedding anniversary by posting a sweet throwback photo on Twitter. The image appeared to have been taken during a photoshoot, and had the words "The best thing about me is you", written along the bottom.

Last month Iman made the rare move to share a photo of her and David's only child – their 16-year-old daughter Lexi Bowie.

Lexi has lived most of her life out of the spotlight and after she was born in 2000, the Space Oddity singer chose to withdraw from the public eye and focus his attention on his family.
