Michelle Obama reveals she thinks daughters Malia and Sacha will have 'tough time' leaving White House

September 15, 2016

Michelle Obama has opened up about leaving the White House after it being a home for her family for eight years, revealing that she thinks it'll be especially hard on her two daughters; Malia and Sasha.

While co-hosting The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the First Lady opened up about the move, and how she thinks the girls will miss the staff more than anything. She said: "I'm sure the girls will have a tough time. They think they're ready, but when you've grown up in a place...I mean, they won't be able to knock on a door and say, 'can I see my room?' That's not gonna happen.

Michelle revealed how she thought her daughters would react to leaving the White House

"It's really the people. Think about it. The girls have grown up in the White House. I mean, the staff there – we see them every day. These are people who have helped us raise our kids. They've loved us. They've taken care of us. The minute we leave, that's it."

The Obamas will be leaving the White House in January following Barack's last ever term as President of the United States, and Michelle revealed that the family were making the most their time in their home, saying: "We're trying to have them step back and really appreciate the walk on the South Lawn, sitting on the Truman Balcony. I mean, we just want to keep creating some memories for them as well."

18-year-old Malia will be leaving home soon to enjoy a gap year before starting Harvard University next year. The President opened up on The Ellen Show about how much he was going to miss her, saying: "I'm not ready for her to leave. She's one of my best friends.

It's going to be hard for me not to have her around all the time, but she's ready to go. She's just a really smart, capable person and she's ready to make her own way."
